Finn and the other people on Takodana (in the Mid Rim) are able to see the beam from the Starkiller Base destroying Hosnian Prime (in the Core Worlds) and other planets, which are, according to Star Wars canon, thousands of light-years away from where Finn stands. If the distance between Takodana and Hosnian Prime had been "only" of a single light-year, Finn and the others should have been able to see the beam and the explosions only a year later (that's, in fact, what "light-year" means). Therefore, the beam and the explosions should have been visible on Takodana thousands of years after the events of the movie.
