In the hotel scene, when Alex holds the door to her room against one of the thugs ("Mr. Jefferson"), she reloads the very much empty pistol she's holding with a spare mag from the bag on the floor, then proceeds to shoot the thug in the foot. She never cycles the weapon - pulling the slide allows a round from the magazine to be loaded into empty firing chamber - therefore pulling the trigger would only result in yet another empty click from the gun.
