At the beginning of the movie Jonas is working on a rescue in the Philippine Trench when the meg forces them to abandon the rescue midway through. They later run into the shark in the Mariana trench saying it had been stuck down there. These trenches are ~1,200 miles apart so it shouldn't not have been able to get from one to the other.
