Admiral Chester W. Nimitz was a marine engineer, and a specialist in diesel engines (specializing in Germany). When he visited Yorktown on a dry dock, after returning from the Coral Sea, he inspected the entire aircraft carrier. In the film he commented "how to use wood if necessary". He newer spoke and it would be an inelegant comment on his part to the other engineers. What he asked for was to leave Yorktown able to sail for a few more weeks, enough to operate in the Battle of Midway.
