The kidnapper leaves a note in Lambert's car. He also leaves Danny's jacket as proof that the kidnapper has the right kid. When the scene changes back to where Danny is hidden, he is wearing the jacket. However, after Barker is arrested, a good bit of time is expended to explain how he went to town and bought an identical jacket, and how it was a common denim jacket, and that he even had a sales slip for it.
