Corporal Barnes when being questioned by Kaffee on the stand says that even though he wanted to give Private Santiago a code red, he didn't because Lance Corporal Dawson would kick his butt. "kick his butt" is only a figure of speech, obviously a marine as disciplined as Dawson would never physically assault Barnes under any circumstance.
