Near the beginning of the film the watchman (who kicks the cat) spots an island off the starboard (right) side of the ship, when the Captain is awoken he is sleeping in his room at the back of the ship, he picks up his telescope and looks out of the open window on the port (left) side of the ship and sees the same island.
