While the F note, which is supposed to trigger the detonation, does indeed occur earlier in the anthem, it is much more extended at the word "free", and the music director does even instruct the children to put special emphasis on that particular note. Hence, we can assume that it takes a specific length and/or strength of that note to trigger the explosion, and that the music director probably has been instructed by Aria to make the children produce such a note.
