In the distance shot of Denver near the beginning, the prairie-surrounded sign states 3-1/4 miles to the city as we look down from slightly above. At 3-1/4 miles from downtown (which is what we see in the distance), you would be surrounded by the city and there is no significant elevation above downtown to the east. The shot also shows a mountain to the left. From this perspective, the only mountains would be behind downtown to the west.
