Even if we accept the "magnetic poles are switching so climate will go frozen" premise of the movie there's absolutely no reason at all for the temperature to go down reaching exactly the Absolute Zero: this temperature is rarely found even in remote and empty regions of the Universe so it would be impossible to have it on a random US city while other nearby places on Earth are normal-temperature or even mild-climate.
