Mack is supposed to be a super-skilled ex-Army Ranger resisting a whole bunch of well-armed invaders. That makes his tactical judgment seem deficient as he passes up many chances to reload or take more powerful weapons from the guys he knocks off as he works his way through Bruce's minions. His character should have seized those opportunities.
