In the message from Epsilon 9, it is stated that the V'Ger cloud measures 82 AU in diameter. 1 AU (astronomical unit) is the distance between the Earth and the sun (approx 93 million miles), so a cloud measuring 82 times this would completely cover the solar system. (In the Director's Cut, V'Ger's size is altered to 2 AU, but even that would be ridiculously huge).
