The film is framed as three flashbacks of Joe remembering the events that led to his standoff with the police. However, in the middle of Joe's second flashback, Jo Ann is telling him about how she met Max and then the film shifts to another flashback. Jo Ann's flashback within Joe's flashback is presented with the same style of detail as Joe's flashbacks, but it's doubtful that in the few minutes she had to talk with Joe that she could tell him her background with Max in such great detail and with verbatim dialog that Joe could "remember" the scenes as depicted (including a performance of a symphony orchestra). Therefore, the filmmakers must have meant this flashback to be solely Jo Ann's, but it's weird in a backstory constructed of Joe's flashbacks.
