Colonel Jessep, a career Marine Corps officer refers to a firearm as a "gun." As anyone who is in the least familiar with United States Marine Corps will attest to, Marines will refer to a firearm as a "gun" perhaps once or twice and then never again.
Firearms are referred to as the general description such as "pistol" "revolver" or "rifle". Or they are specifically called by the civilian or military designations, such as an M9 (a Beretta 92), an M-16 or an M249. It would be so shocking if a Marine officer referred to a weapon in such a manner that it's likely he would be corrected by legal counsel for doing so.
