When George Harvey and Mr. Connors unload the safe with Susie's body from his truck and dump it into the landfill, Harvey drives right past the edge of the pit just a few feet away. He then parks the truck at least 30 or 40 yards from the edge, and the two men spend the next several minutes pulling the enormous safe out of the truck and laboriously rolling it, end over end, to the edge. All he had to do was back the truck back to the edge of the pit and roll it out.
