After the last attack on the Japanese a returning aircraft, identified as being one of Best's wingmen, makes its approach to the carrier with its landing gear retracted. In the next shot where the aircraft crash-lands on the carrier deck, the landing gear is fully extended. The hydraulic landing gear on a Dauntless should take several seconds to deploy.
