Messiah leaves Earth orbit in the wrong direction. All NASA space launches ascend toward the east in order to take advantage of the Earth's 850 mph rotation speed toward the east. Spacecraft therefore orbit the Earth in a generally west-to-east direction. But the land visible as Messiah leaves Earth orbit appears to be Queen Charlotte Sound on Canada's west coast, and its orientation indicates that the ship moved west to leave orbit. This would be in opposition to its orbital direction, and would waste an enormous amount of fuel.
