In their grand design for a rocket ship to the moon, they didn't stop to consider making it easy and efficient for the astronauts to disembark onto the lunar surface with tons of equipment, or retrieve samples to take back to Earth. Their attempt to climb down the side of the ship looks more like three convicts trying to escape a prison wall with a cheesy ladder they forged in the machine shop.
