(at around 32 mins) When Magneto finds his daughter caught by the Militia, he asks why they are not wearing their badges and they say they did not want to bring any metal. After the Militia kills Magneto's daughter and wife, he sees his daughter's metal locket and uses it to kill the men. Since her locket was made of metal, he could have felt it since the beginning and used it to prevent them from killing his family.
