When Tom returns with Marge on his scooter, he drops her off near Dickie's apartment, then enters on his own as Dickie. The press is there taking many pictures of him entering as he cuts thru them. If the Italian press took pictures of him as Dickie, surely they would have been published the next day stating it was Dickie Greenleaf. The ruse is up. All the further police interrogations of Tom would be unnecessary since they would have clearly seen he was masquerading as Dickie.
