When Rooster vows to kill Annie for ripping up the check, Miss Hannigan has a sudden change of heart. Though she has just committed a kidnapping, which is a serious enough crime, it is obvious that Miss Hannigan, whose brother seduced her with the promise of money, has realized she is not a murderer and does not want to be a witness to it either.
