SPOLIER: The depiction of Joan's execution is inaccurate. She was taken by cart to the Place du Vieux-Marché, not on foot. She was escorted by 800 English soldiers, not by two. The actual witnesses numbered in the hundreds, not a few dozen. She did not exchange words with Cauchon until after she was lead to the scaffold. Cauchon sat on a platform with other dignitaries; he did not meet Joan when she emerged from the tunnel (for that matter, there wasn't a tunnel). After an ecclesiastic named Nicholas Midi preached a sermon, Cauchon excommunicated Joan. The death warrant was then read, and the sentence was carried out.
