At the end of the movie, while Nimitz and Rochefort are talking about the battle, there are civilians (including Haruko, Tom Garth's Japanese American girlfriend, who had just been released from detention) on the the dock. During WW2, civilians, especially Japanese Americans, would not have been allowed that close to a naval base and naval ships.
