It is stated that the Avalon is carrying 5,000 passengers and 258 crew members. When Jim holds the reactor vent door open, he tells Aurora that there are 5,000 sleeping passengers on board. In reality he should've said it would make 4,998 passengers and 257 crew members left - minus Jim, Aurora, and Gus who were woken up from hibernation. However, Jim was clearly using the number as a very believable figure of speech.
