When Marcy notices the red hand-shaped marks that Paul left on her back, the fingers are pointing inward towards her spine, but the thumbs turned outwards, towards her armpits. Later, when the marks develop in to a pattern of weeping wounds, the thumbs have changed position, pointing parallel to the other fingers.
