The film takes obvious liberties with the realities of prison life versus the logistics of pulling off a 250 man escape: the immense amount of wood that would be needed for shoring up three tunnels, and never noticed to be missing by the guards; the yards and yards of cloth, needles, thread, and dye needed to outfit 250 men in civilian clothes, shoes, hats, and leather goods; the great variety of paper styles and weights for the documents. Blythe insists on getting a 35mm camera with film, which he gets, but no mention is ever made of all of the chemicals, equipment, and dark room needed to develop anything, much less the printing of the new photos onto the new documents. Then there's the impossibility of hiding the buildup of all of these supplies and materials from an ever-spying security force.
