Jonathan and Raoul smoke cigarettes in the bar where Raoul works. The bar is clearly still open as there is another patron sitting at the bar. It became illegal to smoke in bars and restaurants in Los Angeles in 1998 (the film was made in 2011), but they both behave as if it was perfectly legal.
