The creatures as depicted in this movie use far too much energy to be able to charge long distances at the slightest noise. They could not possibly exist. While it's not clear that the creatures actually eat the humans and other animals that they capture (maybe it's simply because showing that would require a R rating), the calories provided by this wouldn't allow them to run long distances at high speed every time they hear the slightest noise because the success rate would be very low. Even if they have some super efficient alien metabolism, it's still not possible. To move a creature weighing more than an adult human at tens of miles per hour for half a mile or more requires a huge amount of energy. Even aliens have to obey the laws of physics. In most of the movie the world is nearly devoid of humans and almost all animal life so the creatures must have a very low success rate when they go charging after any noise, which after all could be the wind blowing through the trees or other noises nature randomly makes. They would soon run out of energy and starve to death.Lions, tigers, and other apex predators are examples of this. For most of the day they lounge around and other animals can get within striking distance without an attack. But when these apex predators go on the prowl, very little energy is expended until they have the prey cornered with a large probability of success.
