Joe discretely flips the switch to open the cargo door on the 727 assuming the flight crew wouldn't notice. However, there is a very large red "Cargo door unlocked" light located to the right of the flight engineer on the aft cockpit bulkhead on cargo modified 727s that the crew would immediately notice. This indicator is here as the cargo door unlocking or opening during flight is an emergency which requires immediate action.
