Vulko recalls that Atlantis was advanced during a time when other peoples thought the world was flat. In fact, even in ancient Greece, such was the knowledge and philosophical assumption on aesthetic grounds, since a sphere is the most perfect shape. This was reinforced by empirical evidence from lunar eclipses, and changes in the night sky when travelling south - then Eratosthenes used angles of shadows cast at noon to correctly calculate a circumference of about 25,000 miles.
