Fr. Adamsky is not performing any Rite of Exorcism on Sonny, but actually randomly yelling out proclamations and prayers. There is a whole Rite of Exorcism specific to the exorcism for a person, furthermore, at least two priests must be present as Exorcisms are incredibly dangerous and taxing. This is why there must be permission from the Bishop who authorizes an actual Exorcist specifically trained for such a task.
