When the school bus pulls up and stops to board students, the stop sign on the side of the bus remains folded against the bus and there are no flashing lights on. Whenever a school bus stops to pick up or drop off passengers, the stop signs on either side of the will pop out with flashing lights to signal all vehicular traffic to stop and wait.
