Around 5 minutes into the film, as Murdoch leaves the room after the warning call from Dr. Schreber, he has nothing in his hands.
When he sees the Strangers coming up on the elevator, he immediately begins running down the hall toward the stairs. He is not carrying a suitcase in the shots leading up to opening the door, opens the door with his right hand (so he could not be carrying a suitcase in that hand), and a clear shot of his empty left hand outside the room shows he his not carrying a suitcase in that hand, either. Yet, he somehow has a suitcase in his left hand when he gets to the stairs even though he never went back into the room to retrieve it.
