When Max calls Annie to warn him, it makes no sense for him not to call her cell phone number because that is what would have been on the card she gave him. And it makes no sense for his call to her office being automatically re-routed to the library. And it would have been impossible for her in the library hear a landline phone ring in her office two floors below and prompt her to take that call.
