When Caesar arrives in Alexandria, two of the Ptolemy's royal entourage, Theodotos and Achillas, are wearing beards. The Egyptians were obsessed with cleanliness, to the point of shaving their entire bodies and wearing wigs. Nobody in the Pharaoh's court would be allowed to remain unshaven, even if they were Greek.
