2ª versione del dramma di Arthur Miller, realizzata per la TV (ma proiettata al cinema in Europa) e prodotta da Hoffman e Miller. Schlöndorff accentua, anche nelle scenografie, la teatralità del testo, rispettandone fedelmente la lettura, ma cercando di spremerne succhi attuali sul riflusso degli anni '80 e della restaurazione reaganiana.
