Don Johnston, scapolo impenitente sulla sessantina, viene lasciato dalla sua ultima conquista. Contemporaneamente riceve una lettera anonima in cui una sua ex compagna gli rivela che il figlio ormai diciannovenne avuto da lui si e' messo sulle sue tracce. L'amico Winston, detective dilettante, lo spinge a chiarire il "mistero". Don parte così controvoglia alla ricerca della possibile mittente. Avrà modo di confrontarsi con una parte del suo passato e di riflettere sul presente.
