Durante la guerra tra Messico e Texas, le truppe messicane stringono d'assedio Forte Alamo, difeso da un piccolo manipolo di soldati. Tra di loro c'è John Stroud, che viene estratto a sorte per andare a mettere in salvo amici e commilitoni. Arrivato a casa sua, John la trova distrutta da un incendio e, sepolti tra le rovine, scopre i corpi esanimi di sua moglie e di suo figlio. Avendo saputo che l'incendio è opera degli uomini di Jess Wade che, travestiti da messicani, stanno seminando il terrore, John decide di vendicarsi. Quando però arriva nella città vicina, John viene accusato di diserzione ed arrestato. Poiché non può in alcun modo dimostrare la sua innocenza, John decide di evadere dal carcere, cercare la banda di Wade e infiltrarvisi. Il bandito intanto si sta preparando ad assalire una carovana di profughi scortata da alcuni soldati. John interviene, fa fallire l'attacco e, in un corpo a corpo, uccide il bandito. Ora finalmente potranno credere alla sua innocenza
