Travis crolla stremato nel deserto della Califoria. Suo fratello lo porta a casa propria e qui l'uomo ritrova suo figlio di otto anni. Poco a poco Travis esce dal silenzio e stabilisce un buon rapporto col bambino. Saputo che sua moglie vive a Houston, vi si reca col figlio. Ritrova Jane che lavora in un "peep show", rievoca con lei il loro passato e le lascia il bambino. Poi riparte verso l'ignoto.
