Einar e Eric sono entrambi figli del re Ragnar, ma, poiché Eric è un figlio illegittimo, il destino li ha separati in tenera età, così da farli crescere senza sapere nulla l'uno dell'altro. Einar, cresciuto con suo padre, re dei Vichinghi, è diventato un grande guerriero e si è distinto in molte occasioni. Eric invece, ha alle spalle un passato da schiavo da cui è riuscito a liberarsi con molta fatica. Quando il trono di Northumbria, in Bretagna, diviene vacante, si scatena tra i vari pretendenti al titolo una lotta senza quartiere che fa trovare uno contro l'altro i due fratelli, divisi anche dall'amore per la bella principessa Morgana...
