Nel 1916, sui cieli della Francia, come antichi cavalieri, duellano l'asso dell'aviazione tedesca, il barone von Richtofen, e il suo rivale canadese Roy Brown. Brown distrugge la base nemica e allora il barone compie un'azione di rappresaglia sul suolo avversario. La guerra volge al peggio per la Germania, ma von Richtofen rifiuta l'ordine di rientro e trova la morte in un epico duello con il rivale.
