Molly:
So, hey, if the... if the universe is your thing, how come you're at the jewelry store?
Gus:
Oh, that's a good question. Um, well, I used to work at Mount Wilson Observatory. It's in California. I don't know. Before that, NASA. Got my degree at Caltech.
Molly:
So, why aren't you doing that?
Gus:
Well, I, uh... Science is all around us, right? Like a diamond. And you look into a diamond, and it's... it's like its own little galaxy. Like, inside, the way light refracts through it in the right setting, it can be... gorgeous. Does this sound idiotic? I feel like I'm sounding idiotic.
Molly:
Not when you say it.
Gus:
Yeah. Oh! Look, look, look. See?
Molly:
Oh, whoa! A shooting star!
Gus:
Yes, yes! That's-that's right. Technically it's meteors, but yes, it's a shooting star. It's amazing, isn't it? The way that debris and dust from space could look so beautiful as it's burning up in the earth's atmosphere?
Molly:
It is.
