Tony Micelli, un ex giocatore di baseball, diventa il governante della casa di Angela Bower, una dirigente pubblicitaria, a New York. Insieme, crescono i loro figli, Samantha e Jonathan, con l'aiuto della madre di Angela, Mona, una donna ossessionata dagli uomini.
