After the river crossing assault to capture the Nijmegen bridge, Major Julian Cook (Robert Redford) confronts a British officer, chastising him for their failure to advance, 'You're just going to stop and drink tea!" Such an event did occur, however, it wasn't by Major Cook, it was by 82nd Airborne officer Captain T. Moffatt Burriss and a British tank officer. Burriss admitted he put a gun to the Brit's head, ordering him to go forward or he'll blow his head off. The British officer ducked inside his tank and closed the hatch.
