Tre mesi sono passati dallo sbarco in Normandia. Il comando alleato cerca di affrettare la fine della guerra con l'operazione "Market-Garden": 35.000 paracadutisti vengono lanciati in Olanda per impadronirsi di diversi ponti sulla Mosa, sul Waal e sul Reno. Dovranno poi tenerli fino all'arrivo delle truppe corazzate. Le cose non vanno però come il comando si aspettava: il ponte di Arnhem non cade nelle mani degli alleati e si trasforma in una trappola per i paracadutisti inglesi.
