During the fighting early on the first day of the battle prior to the arrival of General Reynolds or any infantry troops, the camera pans along the federal position behind what at that point should be manned only by Buford's cavalry troopers. Instead, obvious federal infantry troops are firing along the line, as evidenced by the light blue infantry stripes on the sleeve of a first sergeant, three banded infantry muskets, and large, infantry-sized regimental flags. This continuity error was probably made in the post-production process where the director and editors attempt to assemble a massive amount of earlier filmed scenes into a cohesive story.
