Finita la guerra, Custer è inattivo e a disagio. Ottiene un comando nell'ovest. Gli ordinano una punizione esemplare per gli indiani, e lui, anche se non è d'accordo, esegue. Gli indiani inferociti uccidono tutti i passeggeri di un treno. Custer viene processato ma ottiene nuovamente il comando di un'unità.
