La newyorchese Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) accompagna il suo fidanzato di lunga data Nick Young (Henry Golding) al matrimonio del suo migliore amico a Singapore. Emozionata perché visiterà l’Asia per la prima volta, ma nervosa perché conoscerà la famiglia di Nick, ben presto Rachel scopre che Nick deve averle omesso qualche piccolo dettaglio sulla sua vita. Infatti, non solo Nick è il discendente di una delle famiglie più importanti del Paese, ma è anche uno degli scapoli più ambiti. Accanto a Nick, Wu diventerà facilmente bersaglio delle gelosissime ragazze del posto e peggio ancora della madre (Michelle Yeoh) di lui che sembra non approvare la scelta del figlio. In questa storia romantica e divertente che potrà risultare sicuramente famigliare agli spettatori, diventa subito chiaro che l’unica cosa più pazza dell’amore sia la famiglia.
